Ecology and Adaptation of Hunters and Gatherers

The ecology of extant and extinct foraging societies; focus on human behavioral solutions to subsistence problems associated with different environments (tropical/neotropical forest, boreal forest, coastal, arctic, grassland/savannah, desert). Topics include edible resource distribution in varied environments and its relationship to mobility and subsistence strategies in modern hunter-gatherers; and the archeological and fossil evidence for the evolution of human subsistence behavior. Prerequisite: Evolutionary Anthropology 101 or Biology 202L.
